Word 9 helps you read your own English content, translate words and sentences into Arabic, and practice vocabulary. This policy explains the data used by the iOS app.
Word 9 requires an account. We process your email address, account identifier, authentication provider, and any name Apple provides with Sign in with Apple. Supabase provides authentication and account storage.
Text you enter and text extracted from photos or scans, document titles and pages, saved words, Learn/Know state, review activity, and reading progress are stored on your device and synchronized to your Word 9 account in Supabase.
In the current iOS app, photos and scans are processed on device with Apple Vision to extract text. Word 9 does not intentionally retain those source images on its server. Extracted text is stored as reading content.
Word and sentence translation use Apple's on-device Translation framework. These translations are not sent to the Word 9 server.
When you request Details & Examples, Word 9 sends the selected word and nearby sentence context, plus language and sense-selection fields, to the Word 9 API. Cloudflare processes the request, OpenAI generates the requested explanation and examples, and Supabase may cache results. Do not request Details & Examples for text you do not want processed by these providers.
Apple processes subscription purchases. Word 9 receives and stores the product identifier, transaction identifiers, app account token, subscription status, and expiration time to verify Premium access. Word 9 does not receive your payment-card details.
Word 9 may process limited product-interaction events, such as app opening and sync success or failure, with an account identifier or an app-generated random identifier, platform, app version, and limited event properties. The API and its processors may also retain normal security and infrastructure logs. Word 9 does not use advertising identifiers and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Word 9 uses Apple for authentication, translation, OCR, and purchases; Supabase for authentication and synchronized data; Cloudflare for API delivery and security; and OpenAI only for user-requested Details & Examples.
Account data is kept while your account exists. You can permanently delete your account in Word 9 under Account. Deletion removes your Word 9 account, synchronized documents, vocabulary, reading state, entitlement mapping, and linked operational records, subject to short-lived processor backups and records that must be retained for security or legal reasons. Local account data is cleared after confirmed deletion.
Deleting your Word 9 account does not automatically cancel a subscription billed by Apple. Manage or cancel it in your Apple subscription settings.
You can delete individual documents in the app, manage your Apple subscription, or delete your account. For privacy questions, use the support method published at legal.word9.app/support.
We may update this policy when Word 9 or its data practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
